Instructional Skills Training

Our instructional program is intended primarily for teaching assistants, institutional trainers, tutors and other adult educators looking to enhance the effectiveness of their teaching.

Training can be tailored to the specific needs of individuals and small groups. However, a typical program extends over 2-3 days and addresses most or all of the following:

  • Planning successful, effective lessons
  • Considering the learners' point of view and developing useful learning objectives
  • Accommodating various learning styles and individual differences
  • Creating a positive, productive learning environment
  • Using appropriate teaching techniques and activities for interactive, participatory learning
  • Using questions and feedback as teaching tools
  • Selecting effective instructional aids and benefiting from the use of educational technologies
  • Facilitating online and distance learning
  • Developing effective evaluation techniques and reporting mechanisms

In a typical program, each participant designs and teaches 2-3 short lessons, and receives constructive feedback from the other participants and the facilitator. Effective ways of addressing various teaching challenges suggested by the participants are discussed.

Presentation Skills Training

Our presentation program is intended for university students, researchers, conference presenters, business professionals, and others interested in creating and delivering impactful presentations.

Training can be tailored to the specific needs of individuals and small groups. However, a typical program extends over 2-3 days and addresses most or all of the following:

  • Planning effective and impactful presentations
  • Determining the purpose of each presentation and using it to 'hook' the audience
  • Effective communication, knowing and engaging the audience
  • Considering various presentation styles and using appropriate presentation techniques
  • Incorporating questions and feedback
  • Selecting effective visual aids and using presentation technology
