HISTORIC
LINCOLN PARK
Spend the day strolling through the 3,000 acres
of beautiful Lincoln Park, the largest park in
the city of Chicago. Begin with Chicago’s
colorful and zesty past, relived in the beautiful
Chicago Historical Society. Situated near Chicago’s
magnificent lakefront on the edge of Lincoln Park,

Continue on to the Lincoln Park Conservatory.
Erected in the gay 90s, the conservatory still

covering three acres in all. You will view the
fine array of ever-changing floral exhibits and
its impressive permanent collection of exotic plants
and trees. The Palm House, Fernery and Tropical
House are among its highlights. Stroll outside
to the formal garden with its colorful profusion
of 30,000 annuals, or to the informal Grandmother’s
Garden with its wildflowers, herbs and perennials.

York’s Central Park, now, over a century
later, Lincoln Park Zoo is one of the finest in

DISCOVER CUNEO MANSION AND HISTORIC LONG GROVE
Visit one of the most elegant mansion estates in
the Chicago area along with a tiny restored town
of the 1800s filled with shopping delights. The
Cuneo Museum and Gardens, built in 1914, was owned
by John F. Cuneo, a prominent Chicago printing
executive, philanthropist and gentleman farmer.
Your docent guided tour will focus on the Venetian
style architecture, elaborate furnishings and opulent
grounds.
A 40 foot high great hall with arcaded balconies,
skylighted ceiling and a grand staircase is breathtaking.
Noteworthy are the double formal dining rooms,
private chapel with exquisite stained glass windows
and the wonderful frescoed ceilings. You will enjoy
seeing fine old master paintings, 17th century
tapestries, a custom made gilt grand piano, and
an outstanding collection of oriental rugs, sculpture
and silver. The estate includes 75 serene acres
with lakes, fountains, formal gardens, antique
classical statuary, a private 9-hold golf course,
and a conservatory. Cuneo was featured in the movie “My
Best Friend’s Wedding”.
You will then continue on to the picturesque village
of Long Grove which was settled in the early 1800s
by a group of German farmers. The country church
and Village Tavern, first established in 1847,
have remained in continuous operation. During the
1920s and 1930s when larger cities were being built,
this quaint, old-fashioned town remained untouched
by progress. During the 1940s a revival of the
past took place and some forty shops and restaurants
evolved.
The day in Long Grove will be spent browsing and
shopping in elegant little stores, charming boutiques,
and incredible antique emporia. Lunch is included
and will be served at Seasons, a wonderful Long
Grove restaurant.
